Hi, I'm Miri Lazarescu Rosen, a certified birth doula and the heart behind Joyful Beginnings Doula Services. I believe every family deserves to feel informed, supported, and empowered throughout pregnancy, labor, and birth. My goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care while creating a calm, reassuring presence so you can approach your birth with confidence.

Whether you're planning an unmedicated birth, an epidural, an induction, a VBAC, or a cesarean birth, I am here to support your choices without judgment. From our prenatal visits through labor and the early postpartum hours, I will be by your side, offering emotional encouragement, physical comfort measures, advocacy, and guidance every step of the way.

Through heat and cold applications, rhythmic counter-pressure, breathing coordination, and posture changes designed to help baby optimal-align with your pelvis, I keep you active and mobile to reduce discomfort and labor resistance.

The hospital/birthing environment moves fast and can feel overwhelming. I work as an educational translator, helping you pause, ask key medical questions, and understand all of your choices. I stand ready to assist you in executing your birth preferences smoothly while keeping a warm, collaborative atmosphere with your midwives and doctors.

Will a Doula replace my partner?

Absolutely not! Your partner holds the deepest, most personal knowledge of you, your preferences, and your love story. I bring specialized, technical knowledge of labor, positioning, and clinical birth settings. Together, we form the ultimate, high-performance birth team, allowing your partner to stay fully present and emotionally connected without the weight of trying to manage the entire medical dynamic alone.

Common Doula Inquiries

Here are solutions and helpful insights to frequently asked questions about the doula experience, timeline, and coverage.

The primary difference lies in medical care. A midwife is a licensed medical provider responsible for the clinical health and safety of you and your baby during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum (similar to an OBGYN).

A doula is a non-medical support companion. I do not deliver babies, monitor vitals, or perform clinical tasks. Instead, I focus entirely on your physical comfort, mental/emotional resilience, and informed-decision advocacy.

Most families choose to hire a doula during their second trimester (between 18-28 weeks). This allows plenty of time to build a strong bond during our prenatal sessions, formulate birth plans, and ensure availability on my calendar. However, I have supported parents who booked as late as 37 weeks—so reach out whenever you feel ready!

I support births in all settings! Hospital births, birth center births, and planned home births. I adapt my role smoothly to work respectfully alongside OBGYNs, nurses, and home midwives alike. My objective is to help you feel safe, heard, and supported in whatever environment you choose for your delivery.

If a cesarean birth becomes necessary, my support does not stop. I remain at your side in the operating room (per hospital policy guidelines), helping to explain the process, calm breathing patterns, and hold your hand. After surgery, I guide early skin-to-skin contact, assist with initial breastfeeding, and support early recovery steps in your postpartum room.

Yes, many families successfully use their Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds to cover certified doula care. Additionally, many insurance companies are now expanding coverage or offering partial reimbursement options. I personally accept insurance through Kaiser Medi-cal and bill through Raya Health.
